I wonder how many of the outraged people on this thread torrent their music, Fraps, Photoshop, and various other things they want, for the same reason as in the original post (because they don't want to pay up).

I'd say, for the same reason Bill Clinton did what he did with Monika Levinsky - "because he can" (that's his quote).

Anyway, if you take people's word, there's always a chance they will scam you and you need to take that into consideration when doing business.

If you would like to prevent being scammed, it is not impossible, but requires a bit of effort - you need to take collateral from them before you run them (like a customized armor piece or 2) and then trade it back to them in return for the payment when you have completed the run. Take a look at this thread - http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10371761 if you want to elaborate.

That depends on how it was set up. If payment occured via a third party neutral intermediary, it would. Basically, paypal for GW. And yes, that opens a whole nest of problems of it's own.

Yep, I used to run Elona's Reach, and would use that to get around those who "forgot" to bring the money. They'd bitch to high heaven, but at the end they'd do it.

To respond to the OP. We will never fully understand why people scam.

It's a shame when people don't play in the spirit of the game, and end up ruining it for others. I know how you feel. Once upon a time I ran a couple players from Ascalon to the desert and they didn't pay up. Waste of my time, and now I have to be a hard ass with perfectly honest people because of a couple fools who can't handle themselves.

Oh well.

It certainly is a reality that will never go away, but in my experience they are by far the minority. It would be nice if they weren't there at all, but the negativity they bring to the game can be avoided with a little common sense and caution.

So when I'm running a dungeon, such as Shards of Orr, and 2 of the 5 people don't pay the 10k should I:
a) give money back and leave, wasting all our times but sticking it to the scammer.
b) wait till the scammers leave or pay up
c) finish the dungeon and just hope no one gets the idea 'they didn't pay, so I won't either'

This has always bugged me. I normally just try and complete the dungeon because 30k is better than 50k. but I hate to let the scammer get his way. Sometimes I'll leave a group alive blocking the pathway to the end chest (drag them away, have people run by, then die in the group and rebirth out to avoid carrying aggro) but dying at all makes you look like a noob runner, even if it was intentional.

PS. Permasin scammers suck the most.

Your father sounds like a redneck dirt bag.

Some people will do anything to get something for nothing...Is this not why you threaten to leave them in the middle of a pack of drooling Raptors unless they pay half or all the cash part-way through the run, so it at least secures some money for your time?

I have came to the realization that look at how many people there are in the world. Do you expect everyone to be honest? Then compare that into GW.

Picture is worth a bunch of words. This is Oola's Lab run where a person attempted to scam me on the last level. If you notice I returned the gold for all those that attempted to pay and left without clearing the level.

While I was doing a free re-run for one of the people that attempted to pay I got these.

Requirement 9 max inscribable storm daggers. I don't believe in Karma but dang. The guy and his guild also insisted on tipping me for the run too.
